My passion for painting started the moment I opened a wedding gift from my Auntie Ella.

My passion for painting started the moment I opened a wedding gift from my Auntie Ella.
This was a beautiful watercolour painting of Blyde River Canyon, in the Lowveld, South Africa. She captured the feeling I remembered from a hike I had done through that valley. I wanted to learn how to express that feeling, that memory or have that ability to touch people.
It took me another 20 years to start. I dabbled a little but being too self-critical I gave up!
With getting divorced and with too much time on my hands and needing some direction, I decided to go for lessons to learn how to paint.
With lessons I discovered tranquility of capturing the light. This was the best therapy to heal from an unpleasant divorce.
Art is a passion. It is a need to show emotion. A learnt skill of understanding texture, contrast, and complimentary colour and with lights and darks to produce something that invokes/triggers something in someone else.
Art is a need to create and often to express and speak out for to retain the emotion causes inner turmoil. I have discovered I need to paint, it is not optional! I trust that my work illustrates this and transports you into that spot, that moment where you want to remain looking and the beauty in front of you.
I create in many different mediums. I create in oil, acrylic, and watercolour..
I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process.
Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
My genre is varied and I paint as I see the beauty in the colours, the light and the moment. I have a passion for animals and wildlife and tend to lean towards that; but in essence I simply see the beauty.
